How to Find Your Hitachi or John Deere Excavator Part Number

Ordering the wrong part is the most common — and most expensive — mistake when repairing an excavator. Getting the exact part number right the first time saves you return shipping, downtime and frustration. Here's how to find it in four steps.

Why the correct part number matters

Excavator components change across model generations. A hydraulic pump that fits a Hitachi EX120 may not fit an EX120-2, and John Deere LC and GLC series machines often use different final drives. The part number — not just the model name — is what guarantees a correct fit.

Step 1 — Identify your machine's model and serial number

Start with the machine data plate, usually found on the cab exterior, inside the cab door, or on the main frame. Note both the full model designation (for example, ZX350LC-3 or 350G LC) and the serial number. These two details narrow down the correct parts group immediately.

Step 2 — Locate the number stamped on the component

Most major components — final drives, swing motors, hydraulic pumps, control valves — have their own part number cast or stamped directly on the housing. Clean off grease and dirt and photograph the number. This is the single most reliable identifier.

Step 3 — Cross-check against the OEM parts breakdown

Match the model, serial range and component number against the manufacturer's parts catalogue. Serial-number breaks matter: the same model can use two different part numbers depending on when it was built.

Step 4 — Confirm with a specialist
